Former Eagles Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson Signs with Lions

Former Philadelphia Eagles safety, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, is reportedly signing with the Detroit Lions. Gardner-Johnson was waived by the Eagles in February after a tumultuous 2021 season, where he was involved in several on-field altercations with opposing players. The 23-year-old safety was originally drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and played two seasons with the team before being released and picked up by the Eagles.

Gardner-Johnson is known for his versatility on the field and his ability to play both safety and nickel cornerback positions. He played in 24 games for the Saints, recording 107 tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions. In his lone season with the Eagles, he played in 13 games, recording 56 tackles and one interception.

The Lions are in the midst of a rebuild under first-year head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes. Gardner-Johnson could provide some much-needed depth to the Lions' secondary, which struggled last season. It remains to be seen what kind of role he will have on the team, but his versatility and experience make him a valuable addition to the roster.

Overall, Gardner-Johnson's signing with the Lions is a low-risk, high-reward move for the team. If he can stay out of trouble off the field and continue to improve his play on the field, he could be a key contributor to the Lions' defense for years to come.
