The legal battle continues for actor Alec Baldwin in the aftermath of a fatal shooting on the set of the film "Rust" last October. A new lawsuit was filed by the film's assistant director, Dave Halls, claiming that Baldwin had failed to follow proper safety protocols and therefore was responsible for the shooting.
The lawsuit alleges that Baldwin had been given a "cold gun" by the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, but did not properly check the firearm before using it. The lawsuit also claims that Baldwin had been unaware that the gun contained live rounds, and had been practicing his quick draw with the gun before the shooting occurred.
Baldwin's attorneys have denied these allegations and have filed a motion to dismiss the case, arguing that Halls was responsible for the safety on the set and that he had failed to properly supervise Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the handling of the firearms.
This case is one of several legal battles arising from the shooting, including a separate lawsuit filed by the family of the cinematographer who was killed. The incident has also sparked a broader conversation about safety on film sets, with industry leaders calling for changes to be made to ensure the safety of all involved.
As the legal proceedings continue, the families of those affected continue to seek justice and closure for the tragedy that occurred on the set of "Rust"
